My BLOG!
Omg, I have treated my blog the same way a husband cheats on his wife.

Flowers he got from Cameron Highlands
No, don't be silly. He didn't go all the way to Cameron Highlands to just buy me flowers (although, that would've scored major points with me)
Flowers are cheap in Cameron Highlands. Half a dozen of roses cost RM5!
And they smell really good too! Unlike the ones they sell in most florist shops.
So yeah, it's nice to receive flowers that doesn't come with messages like "I'm sorry", or "I didn't mean to blow you off for a drinking session with the boys", or "Hope this makes up for the burnt kitchen!".

My mom bought this Sarawak Laksa paste from the famous laksa shop in Bormill. I rate his laksa second to the laksa stall near Grand Continental Hotel in Ban Hock Road (next to the Indian temple if I'm not mistaken). I make it a point to visit either one of them whenever I'm back in Kuching.
The secret to making a good laksa soup lies within the chicken stock. Most hawkers resort to using chicken stock cubes as it's faster. But if you want to give your Sarawak laksa a little bit of oomph, then you should make your own chicken stock.
Now, don't ask me how it's done. All I see is McChef boiling the chicken and putting all sorts of things in it. But I know this process takes quite a while (up to 2 hours).
Making your own chicken stock
Somewhere during this point of time, I started harassing McChef to give me something to do. Don't mistaken this behavior as me being helpful. I'm just being the busybody that I am. Plus, it's also one way for me to make sure he doesn't mess up my kitchen too much.
So he gave me my first task, which is to soak the bihun (vermicelli noodle) into a basin of water.
I couldn't find a basin and this was the biggest plastic bowl that I have...
This was a no-brainer task for me. I was so excited to help out that I kept going on,"So what's next? What's next?"
So he gave me my second task: Peel off the prawn shell.
Easy-peasy right? Hmmph, that's when he started to pull his Kitchen Diva attitude on me. "Take off the head and peel the shell off like this...", "Then put the prawn into this bowl...", "Oiks! Don't throw away the shell. I need that...", "Put the shell and the head here...", "rinse the prawns so they're not so slimy..."
Aiyaiyai yai yai... so many instructions!
The thing about helping a chef out in the kitchen is that you need to keep up with his tempo. Obviously I wasn't working fast enough for him, so he shooed me out of the kitchen. My kitchen btw.
So I decided to make myself useful around the house. I gave my two cats a bath instead.
Then when I was done with that chore, I went to the kitchen and saw this on my kitchen stove:

Now that's an almost perfect Sunday morning to me.

(the lamp that you see in this picture was made by him from scratch. A man that cooks and can build stuff. Cool eh? Perhaps we should open up our very own Ikea)
(the orchids are real and were plucked from his mom's garden. She wasn't too pleased but I bet if she knew what they were for, she would've been very proud of McChef)
Sadly, there were no pictures of the main course and dessert as I was too busy eating.
So McChef not only cooks but he also arranges flowers. Tada!

(I can't even tie my shoelace properly, let alone tie ribbons!)
And of course, he doesn't send flowers without a "special" card. So the flowers came with this:

Yeap, it's a piggy card and it has a name. He's called Puru Puru. And it's a He pig because McChef has even taken the liberty to draw a moustache on it.
Puru Puru is a unique pig as it can hold a tiny card in his hands, like this:
And you can even adjust the height level of the card in his hands to evoke various facial expressions. In the picture above, Puru Puru looks shy.
Here he looks shy but not as shy as the first one.
He still looks shy here, except now Puru Puru looks shy AND blur. Cute right?

Well, knowing McChef, he can be romantic and a real @#^$%* at the same time. I mean, check out the card.

After being blown away by his romantic gesture, I was stunned when I read the card. I was lost for words. He calls me Tangki Taik (it means Shit Tank literally) and he signs the card as, you guessed it, Mr. Perfect.

McChef: Well, I also want to get us a bigger bed. ‘Cause, you know, you take up a lot of space.
Perky: I’m smaller than you! How dare you!
McChef: Have you seen the size of your thighs? It’s like this *cough cough* huge *cough cough* Anyways, I also want to do up the balcony, you know, put some nice furniture there.
I simply couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I can accept it if he tells me he’s broke or something along those lines or that he has to sell one of his kidneys if I insist on him buying me a ring this instant. But my ring is being blown off by his need to renovate/redecorate/rearrange his room. His room! ARGH!
McChef: Erm, it’s not like we’re getting married anytime soon. So I thought the ring can wait. But the room can’t. Won’t you like coming here to a room that is cool, a nice big bed for us to roll around in, for your clothes a closet that stretches from one end to the other, and in the evenings we can just step out to my balcony that has all this cool furniture and a mini bar. Sounds good right? You'd so love it once it's done.
Just tell me, how exactly should I react to this?!?

Being absent from the blogging world has somewhat made me lazy. Maybe I'm still jet-lagged from the flight last night (haha! If there's any such thing as getting jet-lagged from a 1 hr+ flight). Maybe my alter ego is still sunbathing at Damai Lagoon, who knows? Or maybe I've lost my blogging touch (if I ever had any, that is) Anyways, here's the summary of how I spent my holidays back at home.
Christmas
New Years
What I Learned About My New Family
I think Mama Bakery has banned me from helping out in the kitchen. Overall, that trip was a very much needed break for me. Whatever doubts I had, they are now cast away. Suddenly 2007 looks like it's going to be an exciting year. Hey, I even have something else to write about Christmas other than the English brown gravy!
