Reliving the 80’s on the Big Screen

Scribbled by Perky |

I think the 80’s has offered some of the best movies ever. I’m not saying that because I’m a child of the 80’s, but because really, the 80’s was the best era. Remember Conan the Barbarian? That was like the best swords-and-sorcery movie back then. Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan, I couldn’t really understand what he was saying. However, in these CGI-heavy times when fights are so overly choreographed, it was definitely a pleasure to see Conan’s muscles basic but believable combat.

But what I love most about the movies back in the 80’s was the sci-fi movies. Remember E.T.: The Extra-Terrestial starring one very adorable Drew Barrymore (not as E.T. though. She was the cute curly blonde Gertie)?

Then there’s also Back to the Future, which I have the complete set on DVD. Back to the Future 1 was the best for me. I think I developed a huge crush on Michael J Fox after watching him play the guitar during the prom night scene. And who can forget the DeLorean? I had a friend who used to drive the DeLorean and we used to tease him,”Drive any faster and you might just drive us into the future!” Yeah, it’s corny, I know. But isn’t corny an essential part of the 80’s?

Anyways, anyone of you remember the box office hit WarGames starring one very young Matthew Broderick? It’s about a hacker who unwittingly gets the chance to play a game with the US Military’s war computer. That was 25 years ago. So, in conjuction with its 25th Anniversary, Fathom will be screening WarGames in selected theaters on Thursday, July 24th. This one night only event will also include never-before-seen interviews and a sneak peek at the making of the sequel – WarGames: The Dead Code.
